Excellent product. This is not an ordinary stuffed animal. Holds up really well in comparison. My dog loves these dolls.

for my Lab

My Lab loves this toy,its her baby. We’ve tried getting different kinds of squirrels but she won’t play with them. We’ve gone through many of these because she likes to play tug of war with them.

The Best Squirrel Toy for Dogs
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My black lab hunts squirrels in my back yard everyday. It has become an obsession of hers. I got her this stuffed version and it quickly became her favorite toy. Yes, she did end up pulling all of the stuffing out of it, but who can blame her. She’s just doing her job. Plus she didn’t mind playing with the “dead” squirrel for a few months. It’s time for a new stuffed animal. This time I’m getting the goose. But I’ll be back for the squirrel again in a couple of months.

morte the squirrel
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
First, his little nose went, then his paws. Now his head is hanging off. My keeshond puppy insists she did not do this, but no one else in the family tends to attack squirrels, so I doubt her story. Rest in pieces, little squirrel-you had a full life in your three days at our house.

Not for long

This is one of two animals we bought for our dog. The squeaker broke in just a few hours on this one. Very disappointing.

Nice Toy, But Not For A Toy-Shredder
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I can say that this AKC squirrel instantly became my dog’s favorite toy the second she saw it. The squirrel is exceptionally realistic looking, especially from a distance. I set the toy out on the lawn and the dog, already an avid squirrel chaser, took off after it like a bullet. It is the only squirrel she has ever been able to catch! She immediately took it and ran with it into the house and jumped up on the bed to chew on it (which I suppose is a preview of coming attractions should she ever happen to catch a real one). I have tried to get her to play with her other toys, but if the squirrel is anywhere in sight, she won’t even look at the others. If the squirrel is anywhere she can get to it, she will grab it and go jump up on the bed to gnaw on it. If the squirrel is out of reach, and she can see it, she will stare at the squirrel, then look at me, then stare at the squirrel, then look at me, until I can’t stand it any more and either give it to her or hide it. So why only 3 stars? Unfortunately, the squirrel is a bit fragile for my particular dog. Some reviewers have said that their dog has had this toy for months or years. From that I can surmise that their dog is not a Norrbottenspets. Norrbottenspets are a ‘primitive’ breed with strong instincts for chasing, catching and gutting small ground animals. It is not surprising that this same fate would be in store for stuffed toys that resemble small ground animals. The squeaker in the tail didn’t last 5 minutes before it was pierced by a sharp canine tooth. Next were the feet. I left the room for 10 minutes to take a phone call, and when I returned the squirrel was footless and stuffing was decorating the bed. So I put the toy away and, to make it last a bit longer, I have tried to let her have it only when supervised. However, even that is tricky. She is very good at holding it in her paws and hiding what she is actually doing to it, such as chewing its legs off. And I can’t watch her every second. The squirrel lost two legs during a recent bathroom break. So after a week, we are down to a squirrel with only the vestige of one leg remaining, and a tail chewed just about in half. Lately I can see that she has turned her attention to its head. The ears were the first thing to go once that happened. I fully expect that before the month is out, the squirrel will be headless as well. Then it will join company with the five other stuffed animal torsos currently in the sewing room awaiting surgery. So, while this is a great toy, and dogs love it, if you have a toy-shredder like I do, it may not be the best choice for you. It’s a bit pricey as a “sacrificial” toy. I can buy similar sized stuffed toys at Pet Club for a couple of bucks, that I don’t feel bad about just throwing away once they become a legless, decapitated torso. I found a small stuffed toy dog there (at least I think it started out as a dog) that was constructed in a way that the legs and ears could be chewed off without getting into the body cavity, and the head and torso are basically one piece. So, while it, too, has been reduced to a legless, earless head/torso, the squeaker still works and the what is left of it is not leaking any stuffing. That one has gone a few months and is still hanging in there (although you can’t tell what it used to be. It looks like a fuzzy cylinder). It only cost $3.97.

My Dog Loves It.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This squirrel instantly became our Miniature Schnauzer’s favorite toy and he has lots of toys! He plays with it alone and we play with him and the squirrel. We are all pretty rough on it at times! So far, (after several months) we see no damage to the squirrel! It may have have lost some hair, but no body parts, pretty amazing.

This was a great toy for a dog. My dog enjoyed it so much and it lasted a long time in my dogs standards. It is worth the buy if looking for a good dog toy.

Not Boston Terrier Proof
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
We gave this to Lola, our 1 and a half year old active Boston Terrier. She loved it immediately. She chases squirrels in the yard, so we thought this would be a good substitute. It does look like a squirrel, have a nice crinkly tail and a nice squeaker.

But, within 15 minutes, she had surgically removed the crinkler from the tail. Another 5 minutes, and she removed the squeaker. She managed to do both without removing any stuffing (she’s talented), but that was next.

The weak point of this toy is that the big, bushy tail is stitched all the way from the squirrel’s rearend to halfway up his back. So, a dog that’s apt with his or her forepaws can easily hold it down and rend with her teeth (which is exactly what our dog did).

Lola loves stuffed toys, but they don’t last long. I would pay good money to get her a toy she could love on that would last more than two months.

My Husky loves Jakks splush toys
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have a young Siberian Huskey who LOVES to chew. He has ripped holes is many of this stuffed animals, except he has yet to do so with any of his Jakks plush animals. He has several of their animals and loves them all, expecially the possum. They are well made and I recommend them highly over any other plush for dogs.

Not very realistic
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My dog goes balistic every time she sees a squirrel so I got her this for Christmas. She just looked at it like it was stupid and went on. It was not enough squirrel like for her I guess. The sound that it makes though entertained my 3 year old cousin though for hours.

Very happy with it
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My little monster (a golden retriever) absolutely goes crazy for this toy. He usually carries it everywhere with him, and if he happens to be outside without it and someone comes over, he has to run in to get it to show it to them. He’s also a toy-shredder as some of the other dogs here, but in my experience this toy holds up very well to his manic episodes. The only problem I really have is trying to keep it clean, since he loves to repeatedly bury and dig it up. I buy him a new one every 5 or 6 months as a treat and it’s probably the happiest time of the year for him. He has a small stash of them now that he keeps behind his bed.

Great product, especially for the price. A minor annoyance is that he’s decided the squeaking is a fun way for him to get me out of bed to play with him.

Fun for my dog, but easy to destroy
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My mother bought this plush squirrel for my dog since he loves to chase real squirrels outside. This is easily one of his favorite toys. He loves to chase after it if I throw it and will spend a lot of time shaking and wrestling with it. Unfortunately I’ve learned it’s a toy that he can only play with under supervision. He loves to chew and I found that within a matter of a few days he had chewed one of the feet off and was proceeding to try to eat the stuffing out of the center of the toy. I still let him play with it but only for small intervals at a time and only if I can watch him. The bottom line is this, it’s a fun toy but no more durable than your average dog toy. If your dog destroys your average toy chances are he’ll chew through this as well. It’s great when I can watch him but for unsupervised play I’ll only leave him with something like a kong or a Everlasting Treat Ball Large. I feel much more comfortable with those that I can leave him alone and not come home to find he has ingested something he shouldn’t have.

Worst toy in the dog’s toybox
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The squirrel lasted less than 48 hours. Generally the least expensive stuffed toys from pet stores last 3 to 4 months before the fabric rips. My dog likes to “kill” the toy, have someone throw it, retrieve it, play tug-of-war and start the process again. In a matter of minutes the fur was coming off. After the third or forth “kill,” stuffing was flying all over the living room. Never have I bought a toy that fell apart as quickly as did this squirrel. I will sew the rips and see if we can get another few hours of play as my dog really liked the toy.

I wasn’t sure if my dog would like this at first. She loves squirrels, but it isn’t real. She fell in love as soon as she saw it. Years later it still looks great after tons of wear, and lots of squeaking!

not bad for a fake squirrel
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
They had these at the Pet Food Express next door to the Valero where I work. I’ve been having a problem with my dog catching live squirrels and chewing them up in the yard. Personally, I don’t care; why not let dogs be dogs? It’s my landlord that has a problem with it and the lady who rents upstairs that complained. Anyway, Rufus was leaving squirrel guts everywhere and flies were coming–the big ones that shine green. I bought him one of these toys to play with and he had it torn up by the next night. Rufus is good at shredding things–he does all my old bank statements. I thought the stuffed squirrel wouldn’t last two hours, but we went a whole day without one dead squirrel on our yard. (I cleaned up all the old guts the day before. I don’t know why the squirrels keep coming back to our yard anyway; they know Rufus lives there.) Now I’m buying the toys from Amazon and stock piling them. (It’s cheaper and there’s the free shipping since we order enough.) Rufus still leaves the “guts” in the yard. It looks like it snowed out there. Nothing bad about that though. Reminds me of growing up back east. The toys last longer than the real squirrels with Rufus. He won’t eat the fabric hide so he continues to chew and chew until it’s all holes. It may look like he’s done with the toy, but the fabric part will last him several more days. He always works slow on those. Every once in a while he goes after live squirrels, but I think he’s gotten lazy now that he plays with the toys all the time. We go through about one stuffed squirrel a week and a bonus: Rufus has stopped puking up the hair and stuff that he used to eat off the real squirrels, so we’re saving on carpet cleaner.

This is AWESOME toy for my HUGE puppy. It’s the only one he hasn’t torn apart. Finally, something to catch and play with, since all those pesky squirrels torment him outside.
